(For those who have lost their beautiful, wonderful, sweet, kind hearted pets)

"The Rainbow Bridge" Rainbow Bridge "The Rainbow Bridge"

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross
Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you for posting this. Thinking of my "family members of the animal persuasion" who have passed on still brings me close to tears.

I have met and talked with James Van Praagh, the famous medium, twice. He assures us that our beloved pets will be there waiting for us when we cross over. How wonderful!!!

Thank you so much for "the Rainbow Bridge". It brought tears to my eyes and made me think of the dog I had before the one I have now. He's been dead for over 2 years but I still miss him dearly. And yes I believe that all of our animal friends go on to an afterlife just as we do.

What happens if a pet is forgotten or the love fades away over time ? Are they still there waiting ? And what if their original owners didn't want them or gave them away ? What if the owner dies first ? What happens then ?

This little fellow made me think of the Rainbow Bridge more than any other animal that has passed while in my care... maybe it was his size and the thought of knowing that he would never get to live the full life I know his parents and siblings did -

Rocky passed away with in the first week of his precious little life, and after winning a baby photo contest for me.

This is beautiful - it reminds me of a book I read called 'The Truth in The Light' which about a doctors investigation into near death experiences. One story was a guy, who when his heart stopped, he had a vision that he went somewhere and all the dogs of his life came running to greet him!
I hope my kitty 'Mouse' (my avatar) is waiting there for me...as long as she's found lots of friends to be with until we meet again!

For those who are struggling with pet loss, there is also lots of great info at:

This is so beautiful. I just bought a book called All Pets Go To Heaven by Sylvia Browne. It says all the same things as the rainbow bridge. It's a comfort to know they're waiting for us.

At Rainbow Bridge, no pet stays unwanted. If a pet is forgotten, or was unwanted in this life, I am sure there are plenty of opportunities for adoption. Think of a little child who was born too unhealthy to have a pet, who couldn't live to grow up. Or someone in an undeveloped country who couldn't have what we think of as a normal life, who don't have the time, money, or energy to devote to a pet. Anyone who crosses that Rainbow Bridge never having owned a pet will have their pick of the orphaned ones.

What if the owner dies first? That would be like our Tuffy. Her first owner died, and later she came to live with us. She will probably cross the Rainbow Bridge soon. I'm sure her original owner will be glad to see her again, since she is such a loving, sweet cat. They'll have such a good time together, until we arrive, and then I trust that Tuffy's original owner will be kind enough to share her with us.

What if the original owners couldn't keep their beloved pet, and had to give dear little Mopsy away to another home where they loved her just as much? Who would claim Mopsy at the Rainbow Bridge? That's the one that puzzles me. Maybe they can all share, as we would share Tuffy. There would be enough love to go around.
Thanks for this!

That bit bout an ill child who didn't grow up - that gives me hope for my little cousin, who was never taken home. I hope she'll be able to find love until her mother joins her. And there's no greater love than that of a pet.
