So, you're saying Georgie Porgie is pudgy??? I had to laugh - there is a big gray cat in our neighborhood named "Georgie". Our Georgie's elderly owners spend their days looking for him - I know as well as I know my own name he hides, purposefully playing games with them. I think he likes being smothered with kisses when his mom finds him.

I've only owned one cat, mine was "Charlie". Charlie looked like a big white cat but he was all fur.

I wish I had some advice to share but I'm afraid I don't. Is George really fat or is he maybe just a big cat?

Hi mel,

The only things I can think of to help George lose weight is to: 1.) Play games "fetch-like" with him. I used to cast a cat toy on the end of fishing line, and my cats would chase after it as I reeled it back in. They got lots of exercise & loved it!! 2.) Try a low-fat dry cat food. Keep that out all day & night. Have just 1 small can of wet food once/day. What he doesn't eat up immediately, gets taken away for tomarrow. As my cats got older, they stopped eating wet food completely.

My cats were strictly indoors, which did help a lot in regulating their diets and exercise. If George is also outdoors, that makes it kind of tricky. There are all sorts of snacks and junk food for cats to munch on outdoors.

Try the fetching game though. So fun! Best wishes to you and your clan out there

Apparently some cats are just big (plus sized?) regardless of diet or activity. My father had a friend who owned a 27lb cat. Not a fat cat...he was frame proportionate, just a big cat. This cat feared no dog lol. Here's an interesting article from a site on cats and other critters:

Thanks would you believe me if I said goerge just lays there when trying to tempt him with all sorts of wonderful toys.He can however still hunt quite well for rats and mice so maybe there is hope for him. I do controll what he eats he just doesn't seem to shed the pounds it's abiit embarrassing to be honest people ask when his kittens are due very shamefull indeed my other fur children are all good normal weights
Thanks for this!

Same is true of Maine Coon cats. My coonie is bigger than my recent adopted Dachshund, and he's not finished growing, since they don't reach full size till age 5 or so.
Thanks for this!
