Tiny came to the Fredericton SPCA Animal Shelter on December 30th 2011. He was taped up in a cardboard box with another much smaller cat, Rapunzel, and left in the shelter lobby. At first we thought the box was full of donations of computer paper, cat treats, etc. but then the box meowed. We were shocked to see what was inside; 2 cats Tiny and Rapunzel.
Tiny the cat who went from 30 pounds to 19 pounds!
During his initial health check Tiny weighed in at 30.2 lbs, the largest cat we have ever seen! Concerned about his health we took Tiny to see Dr. Nicole Jewett at Valley Veterinary Hospital who assessed his health and recommended a low-cal high protein diet with the goal of a slow, steady and healthy weight loss. So we are putting Tiny on a diet and are hoping to inspire others to educate themselves on the dangers of pet obesity and how everyone can provide better nutrition and more excercise to their pets!
Your donations to Tiny's Weight Loss Challenge will go to a special medical fund to help special needs animals like Tiny at the Fredericton SPCA. Tiny's special canned diet food is estimated to cost $4 - $5 a day, as well he will need regular vet check-ups and could require extensive testing. Tiny's weight loss partner is Pepper our shelter cat who weighs in at 19 lbs and she will also require the special diet food. Currently we have 2 senior female dogs Rita and Kya who are in need of spay surgeries that because of their age are more extensive and expensive surgeries, they also require some mammary gland tumor removal and post-op care estimated to cost about $1,200 each. Whenever we recieve animals in need of above and beyond medical treatment (tooth extractions, amputations, diagnostic testing, etc.) the funds you donated to Tiny's Weight Loss Challenge will help us. Your support will help provide these amazing animals the best medical care and a second chance at the good life! Our current goal is $4,900 to cover special diet food and veterinary care for both Tiny & our shelter cat Pepper and both Rita and Kya's special surgeries. Any funds not used for Tiny, Pepper, Rita or Kya will go into the fund for the next animal that needs care - you see Tiny likes to 'pay it forward'!

You can donate a lump sum or donate per every pound Tiny looses (and don't forget about Pepper). I will be hoping for the best for Tiny and everyone's progress; glad they are in good hands. Thank you for doing all that you do for the animals; it is much appreciated.
