His name is Thomas. He is fluffy. Old, even when I got him (in January. He's 9ish).
So apparently he likes being pet. Could have fooled me. But he will ONLY be pet for an extended period if he sits in my lap. And apparently he won't jump up on my lap. I can pick him up and place him there and he will stay, but will he jump up? No way! I wonder if the wheelchair alarms him, but I doubt it. My cat is odd. So I wind up having to pick him up for pettings. He also vocally complains if he can see the bottom of his food bowl. Even if all he did was eat a hole in the middle of a pile of cat foods. And he has a food dispenser, it falls down INTO the bowl. But he still won't eat if he can see the bottom of the bowl. Weirdo. ![]()

I don't feel like I own my cats, it's more like we have a mutual understanding.

Yes cats are tempermental and he's probably set in his ways. Since he's elderly, maybe he has arthritis or perhaps dental issues. When ever I owned cats, they would come only when they felt like it lol. Kind of like narcissists lol.

Christina, so you have a Tom-cat?!?!?!
![]() Once upon a time we too had a cat that would raise rightous Cain if he could see the bottom of his food dish. If we shook the dish to cover the bottom he was fine with it. Thomas might be afraid of your wheelchair. Maybe he never saw one before or maybe he had a bad experience with one? Then it could be like Lynn suggested, maybe it's uncomfortable for him to jump up to your lap. He sounds like a sweet heart! |

Yep. I shake his food bowl at least once a day for the lazy bum. He meows at me and leads me to his food dish at least twice a day to show me that he's clearly starving to death when he can see the bottom of the bowl.
He tries to make a run out of my apartment when I come home every day. If I go to take out the garbage, he runs down the hallway of the building. He refuses to let me use the bathroom with the door closed unless he's in it - and if he is, then he hates me for it. God help you if you eat certain foods and don't share. I never knew cats would go after non-meat items, but there you go. Catnip doesn't make him happy, it makes him even more bitey. I have a very bitey cat - probably due to the fact he's front declawed. He's also scared of my rabbit, Esther. Then again, every single cat I've petsat has been scared of my Esther Bunny. My cat is pretty much evil, but he comes when he's called, he understands the "treat bag" noise and we've got an understanding about him not being on my kitchen counter. Beyond that, it really is his house. Lazy bum.

![]() ![]() Oh, yes, I bellieve there is a section in the Guide to Human Ownership for Cats about bathroom doors. Mine will stick a front paw under the door and rattle it (the door) back and forth if I lock them out. I have one that insists on sitting on my lap when I'm on the toilet. I try to point out that I'm a bit busy at the time, but he doesn't care. Afterall, humans exist to tend to the care and comfort of cats don't you know? It's in the Guide! ![]() |

My other cats didn't care if I went into the bathroom, I thought Sir was being a bit too possessive. Glad to know it's not so unusual. I got him from the shelter when he was there for the 3rd time and in ISO for the second time, but he has never left my apartment(except in his carrier, he is even good about getting in the carrier--I think he likes rides and going to the vet!!)-even when they took the door off to replace it, instead he went into my bedroom and hid. He will go out on the patio, but only if I go out first. I think the first owners must have kicked him out and thats why he would end up at the shelter! Grrr. After the second time they had to neuter him and pay $135, the third time, his return to owner fee was $300 dollars, they decided not to come and get him. At our shelter the fee goes up every time an owner "loses" their pet, if they think the owner is at fault.
We had to come to an understanding that my bed was off limits-I do need to sleep I have chronic pain so his sleeping on me didn't work. The first few days I shut the bedroom door he tried to dig his way under the door to get in. Now after 3 plus years he will let me do things on my own(sleep and toilet), but not a bath, he has to supervise me in all that water! ![]() Sir = ![]() ![]() Sir is sorry Thomas got his claws taken. ![]() ![]()
