Hello everyone.

I'm putting my 10 year old cat to sleep Thursday afternoon. He has congestive heart failure. He's had two heart attacks in the last month. On Friday I increased his Lasix to the maximum amount. His breathing is still labored. He is also on two heart meds. He was diagnosed in June and given six months to live.

Right now he is laying in the sunshine on the porch. He was enjoying fresh catnip earlier.

It is the right thing to do, but it does not seem fair.

Putting my Cat to Sleep on Thursday :( My heart breaks for you.

It's one of the hardest things I've ever done==and I've done it twice with service dogs. I had cats growing up...but only rarely had to handle a death. To do it myself...ah... sooooooooooooo heart wrenching.

I'm so sorry my friend, I am happy he at least seems to be enjoying his final days outside in the sun.

Make sure that he lives his final days in comfort, make him his favourite foods, give him access to his toys, that's all you can do.

I'm sorry. I've had cats for 30+ years and I know how hard it is. As sad as I was each time, there was also a relief that my girls weren't suffering anymore.

Be proud of yourself; it is a very selfless thing you are doing. You did what you could, you gave him 10 great years of your love, but you recognize you can't help him any longer. He will always be a part of your life, he will always be a part of your heart.

I cried each time and grieved each loss. Allow yourself time to grieve and be gentle with yourself.

You have my sympathy. I've been where you are and it's the toughest decisions I've had to make. I had one cat, which suddenly got sick and there was nothing they could do.) I had a dog that I had to put to sleep because of congestive hearth failure. It was tough but it was worse to watch labor of each breath. You are strong and doing the right thing. Take care of yourself afterward, it will not be easy, but go through one step at a time.

It is such hard a decision but know he will no longer suffer. My heart aches for you. Hang in there.

I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is the most painful thing. You are doing right by your cat - it isn't fair, but it's the fairest you can be. He's had a good life and been loved, and he will know that.

He looks like he was a very solid cat. You made the right choice, our cats need us to make sound medical decisions for them and you have done that. Well done.
