hmmm, this is tough to explain... The previous poster mentioned the cat grabbing her skirt. That's an example.

I have a cat that reached out ad grabbed my sleeve when I walked by his cage. When the tech took him out for me to see he wrapped his legs around me in a hug. He picked me.

I once went to look at a litter of very young kittens. One crawled over and crawled up in my lap. I put him back and picked up another kitten. Frist one crawled over into my lap. Repeat four more times (once for each kitten in the litter). I finally laughed and said "I guess I've been picked."

I guess the best advice is to leave yourself open to the cat/kitten that seeks you out rather then you picking one out.
Thanks for this!

If I get a black male cat I would name it Elwood after Elwood Blues from the Blues Brothers since they wear all black outfits.
Then I'd say it's a good thing, and they choose you for their 'human'. If you are asking, how do you know they choose you, that would come instinctual to you, really hard to put to words.

I knew my feral kitten chose me, after about a day of just acclimating to being indoors, she jumped up on the couch one night between me and my then fiancé. And that was it. She would proceed from there, to jump into bed and sleep at the top of the pillows. She hasn't left my side, since

As far as choosing an older cat or kitten. She's 12 now, and has several years left. She had a little brother cat, that had a heart condition and passed at the tender age of 3. She took to him, but when taking in another cat/kitten from my then Sister in-law, she didn't take to him. He was adopted by someone in the neighborhood, I left to move to where I am.

I am waiting for another cat until after she's gone. I'd personally go with an older cat, for myself. However, the boys will have a say. Right now, my 6 year old is fascinated by our cats baby/kitten photos. They may enjoy watching a kitten mature into an adult cat. Time will tell.

BTW, LOVE the names chosen 'on a mission from gawd'
Thanks for this!

Elwood! That's a cool idea for a name.

Every cat I ever had found me, turned up. I have been blessed to have them. I never went to a rescue, I dont know how I would tbh. I guess Id just phone and send me the one no one wants! I love em and they feel it and I take them as they are. They are exceptional little beings..but yeah if one grabs out at you, take that one coz they were so needing for you to give them a home they plucked up the courage to reach out, then again there may be a shy broken one too withdrawn to ask for help. GAWWDDD it shouldnt be like this, poor souls!... Go by your inner voice?

We've only had one cat come to us, but we were never in a position to take it in.

I have a pretty good instinct, so I think I'll make a good choice in choosing a cat.
