Hector was one of the dogs rescued from Michael Vick's "farm." Hector went on to become a therapy dog. He has cancer and had an appointment yesterday to be put down. He told his people that he wasn't ready to go and they listened!

Here is a link to his Facebook page.

For anyone interested in learning more about the dogs rescued from Vick, there's a great book titled "Lost Dogs" by Jim Gorant. Some of the early parts of the book dealing with the abuse are very difficult to read, but the overall tone is positive.

What a big hearted dog to go from Vick's fighting arena to being a therapy dog!
I'm glad he had 7 years of good life.

I'm so glad Hector's family was able and willing to listen to him when he said he was not ready to end his life.

Reading the stories of what these dogs went on to do after being rescued is incredible. Hector is not the only therapy dog. Another belongs to a reading program in libraries where kids who have difficulty reading read to the dogs. Another is a top agility dog. Others are "just" family pets.

Of the 50+ dogs rescued from Vick's farm only two had to be put down. One was a male who had fought so much he could not be rehabilitated. The other was a female who had been bred so many times her health was ruined.

Pit Bulls have such a bad rap with people. Don't get me wrong. There are some very bad ones out there. I was attacked by one myself many years ago. But they can also be sweet loving dogs.

Vick is the one who should have been put down!

I hope his career ends in dismal failure and he dies broke!

And to hell with anyone that thinks he's paid his debt to society.

I'm quite certain they'd never say that about Gacy, Bundy or Dahmer!

Wow!

Didn't know I still felt quite so strongly about that!
