Poor Fish has too much anxiety from his past life so today we started a mild dose of trazadone. My discussion with the vet was that we use it as a PRN for very stressful situations since he has been progressing and getting better. I just felt like he needed a little something to help when in these situations where I can't keep him under his threshold for whatever reason.

I think this will make him a bit sleepy during his visit with the sitter this week, but I think it will also help him be calmer.

We shall see how he does.

Our dog has had Trazadone on a prn basis because he fears thunderstorms. It seems as though it has helped him when we were able to give it to him in time. But often, by the time we realized he could use it, it was too late for it to be of any benefit. It takes a while for it to have its desired effect.

I'm hoping that it helps him with his stay at the sitter. It takes like 30 minutes to an hour to take effect. He does fine during thunderstorms and fireworks. I'm using it mostly for situations where I know I'm taking him into situations where his anxiety will rise over threshold, so he can handle it and still function.
