I've been eating to numb my feelings, cold feelings of loss.. Eating makes me feel warm inside - cared for.. Even when it's anything but!

Sugar and fat are my go-to comforters.. Sometimes salt, too - sometimes if I don't have anything else on hand, everything will do - I'll overeat on vegetables if I have to!!

How on earth can I fix this.. What else would give me what I never had - LOVE for myself..???

How do you feel about exercise? It's a healthy activity for both body and mind, and would give you feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction. It is a great way to show care towards yourself.

Im sorry to hear that. I also love food way too much, requiring high amounts of sugar and sweets everyday. I feel really good while i'm eating, but I feel horrible after it. Like she suggested above, have you tried exercising? I know it's really hard but once you start it slowly, your mood and anxiety improve. I still eat a lot, but exercising helps me balance that. Obviously professional help from therapists, nutritionists, and personal trainers are very important tools, but if its not available, a light run in the morning could help a little as a start.

If you just cut one thing out of your diet for a week and nothing else, it really adds up overtime I know this is easier said then done but the best advice I have is if your gonna overeat make sure you have some healthy snacks.

Thank you all for your replies! I've never been into exercise but I know it would probably do me good.. I'm going to have to try and get myself moving!

Cutting out one thing at a time also sounds good, more manageable

I also started thinking maybe there IS nothing that can fill the void of being motherless.. Maybe I just need to accept it and grieve the loss, not try to stuff the emotions away..

I think you just hit the nail on the head. I struggle with the lack of family in my life also and I have overeaten myself up to 300 lbs. You said you are motherless. Was she abusive to you?
