My mother is severely handicapped by a complex of mental issues, and she is unable to get help.

Consensus among the professionals we have talked to and among the literature we have read says she needs to be in an inpatient or residential program.

Yet one of her most severe issues is extreme OCD centered around contamination. So a hospital or even a residential program is unthinkable. Even getting to such a place is impossible, as it would involve air travel or an extended road trip, and those involve touching contaminated surfaces and using shared bathrooms. Then there's the setting itself, which is utterly terrifying to her.

So her illness is literally preventing her from addressing her illness.

She also has trouble getting to see her therapist (basically for the same reasons), and only makes it there about once every other week. An hour of therapy every other week just can't cut it against this much sickness.

So what can she do? Are there therapists who work online or who do house calls? Even so, it would have to be someone who is really good (the last four therapists/psychiatrists have seen her decline more and more) and it would have to be really intensive. Together those sound like they would cost a large, uninsured fortune.

Is there just no hope for her?

I have no idea, but truly admire your dedication and love enough for your mom to care enough to even try to help her. I hope you find a solution .

Have you thought about using Skype to at least get her more time with her T? Your mom must feel completely helpless. She is fortunate to have you to help her. Good luck.

OCD treatment center, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety symptoms if possible maybe they can put her to sleep before leaving. Could she get a visiting social worker.

Thanks, Miguel'smom. She won't go to a hospital voluntarily, because the destination is too frightening. She might be drugged for the ride (a scary prospect; it would be a long trip), but when she woke up, she'd have to use a shared restroom.

Is there such a thing as a visiting social worker? How would I find one of those?

Call your county visiting nursing agency and they should have one or they could direct you to one. You could also call around to therapists explaining that she needs home visits.
