I am a mom of a 16 year old son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia after his first psychotic break last fall one week after his 16th birthday. Prior to that he was diagnosed at 10 with Asperger Syndrome which they are now saying may have been early signs of schizophrenia. He was always a gifted student with very high iq that had a 4.6 GPA up until his junior year when he had his break.
Since the first episode he has been in and out of hospital over 10 times due to suicide attempts. He has been on every AP and none seem to work. Now he is on 400 mg of Clozapine and still hears the voices daily that tournament him and tell him daily to die. He is now saying he is seeing demons attacking him and every evening has a severe hallucinations that distress him greatly. He is in the EPIC (early psychosis intervention clinic) and is working with psychiatrist, therapist, recovery coach and a employment/educational support person. He lost his entire junior year due to being in the hospital and will know be going to non public placement for kids with emotional disturbance and autism in the fall to finish hs diploma. He only has 2 classes left to graduate high school. I am going through so much with this and just needed a place to share what we are going through. |

welcome mommieB you feel like you are losing it, but in fact your son is in safe, loving hands. the epic programs and loving family behind this young man. is the best medicine to help him along this path in life ...I have a 35yo son with bipolar 1 and we are still and will forever be on this really bumpy path.. many days we become really frustrated, angry, and a whole lot more x-rated feelings. For me when I get angry, you know feelings like "throw him out of the house" it helps for me to keep reminding myself that this is a severe mental illness. and his brain is really "broken" and he needs every bit of help we can give him. you should try nami family to family groups for yourself...it saved me big time I thought I was heading for a nervous breakdown...you are not alone...Geesh, there are almost 60 thousand people on this web-site alone You are doing a great job, really. stairway
