I discovered this little gem last night as I was doing some reading. I didn't knowit was a thing. Anyone have any experience with this? I am interested because I always thought my Dad had NPD but sadistic personality disorder seemed much more accurate. Is it possible to have two personality disorders? He has symptoms of both.

I don't think sadism is a personality disorder unto itself . Do you have a link?
Thanks for this!

It isn't in the DSM anymore. I think it was kind of absorbed by NPD and ASPD.

It's not in the DSM but I've found it helpful in explaining some nuances of my own behavior that weren't covered in traditional descriptions of ASPD.

LeoMama:

Sadistic Personality Disorder - Aggressive & Manipulative Personality

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadist...ality_disorder

What do you other folks mean by ASPD?

I am hooked on the SPD thing because one of my traumatic memories is the day my Dad called me a "sadist", when I was too young to even know what that word meant. Projection is common thing I see in multiple family members. The second link, the WIKI article, notes that is has a high level of comorbidity, thus why I have trouble deciding if he is NPD or SPD.

Here is a video by Richard Grannon, part 2 of his notes on Sam Vaknin's seminar, where he goes into the sadistic variety of NPD. Let me know if this is useful.

Sadistic Personality Disorder is no longer a diagnosis and is outdated. However, Sexual Sadism Disorder is a thing that still exists.

To answer your question, as far as I'm aware of it is possible to have multiple personality disorders. There's no limit to the amount of personality disorders someone can have, although over/misdiagnosing are issues in themselves.
