Just an idea and I don't know if it will help or not, but can you control what you obsess about at all? If you can, you might be able to turn your challenges into strengths. I've heard it said that nobody gets through things like graduate school without having at least a touch of OCD or OCPD. Sometimes it's necessary to obsess and focus on details. I can relate to a lot of that - perfectionism, inflexibility, etc. Perfectionism can be crippling too, and can keep you from being able to get anything done, or even start, because it is impossible for you or anyone to do it up to the standard you have set, so you think why even try.

One thing I know of that can help with perfectionism is www.flylady.net

thanx for the reply rapunzel.
well, since its only recently that i've recog. this dx to be my main disability, with the help of my therapist I'm able to become aware of my rigidness and control it to a suff. degree in most things except my studies, This remains the core of my problem, from where everything has stemmed perhaps, and i still struggle a lot not to procrastinate work and to avoid re reading of stuff to get it perfect. but i guess the best way is to get down to doing the right things and as the mind is trained to be more aware of such things, with practice we can undo past behav. patterns n devl new and healthy ones.

I was a perfectionist the first 30 years of my life. It was around then that I realized, through a Psychology Today article, that being that way would KILL me. I still have the magazine, kept in plastic (thus it made it through the hurricanes ocpd anyone?? )

There are certain steps you can take... that you MUST take to counter this... and I wish you much success!
