Hello I am new and I need an answer. I am an 18 yr old female from Iowa. Here is my problem:
I don't know if this is part of my borderline personality or what but somedays I feel on top of the world and others I end up cutting myself. I mean somedays like today I am so self confident and arrogant, self centered and egotistial that my bf doesn't wanna be around me. My therapist said I was a closet narcissist what ever that means. Anyway other days I feel so alone, empty and disgusted. Is this a normal BPD trait- feeling like you're two faced? I am so confused. |

Narcissism is often misdiagnosed as borderline personality. Your concerns support the narcissism idea, imo. Keep working with your T on these feelings, I'm sure you will find some relief eventually.

Yes definitely, I think even people without BPD feel as though their two faced. But especially people with BPD since they are practically two separate people, sometimes more. It's normal.....for bi polar that is.

the majority of people with BPD also meet criteria for other varieties of personality disorder such as avoidant and / or narcissistic. given that some of the symptoms overlap between different disorders it isn't so surprising...
narcissism is mentioned in BPD. narcissists tend not to SI (cut) and swing to the 'alone empty and disgusted' kinda thing. yeah the feeling two faced aka feeling kinda different when one is in different moods (and very intense moods and very mood dependent behaviour) is a fairly typical symptom for BPD. what kind of treatment are you having? how is that going for you? I guess you are still cutting so... have you fairly recently started treatment? |
