Hi, so I have social anxiety and depression, but sometimes I feel like I might have a dissociation or personality disorder of some kind. I often randomly feel ‘out of it’, or just like empty. I feel like I’m not actually there, like I am in my body, but someone else is actually talking or moving, etc. Sometimes it feel like I am just trapped inside my body while the world goes on around me, or like I will look in the mirror and it doesn’t feel like it’s me, I look at myself and feel like I’m looking at a stranger. I don’t know what this is or means. If anyone has had this or knows what it might be, I’d love to hear what you have to say. Thanks

I was diagnosed with both Personality and Dissociative Disorders, "Not Otherwise Specified", 5.5 years ago. My symptoms were somewhat different than yours and I really don't know what yours mean. Have you seen a therapist? If you really do suspect dissociation, then try to find one who specializes in that or at least accepts that it exists. Some don't -- and they didn't help me a bit, sometimes made things worse.

I don't have a therapist right now, just a psychiatrist I see every few months for my meds, but thanks for the insight

confusedandstrange,

Without knowing more of your story, it;s hard to understand why this might be happening. One tip I can give you is start a journal. Write your symptoms, such as when you feel anxious or depressed, even perhaps how you sleep as well. Your sleep patterns are often key as to what might be going on. Write down when these symptoms started, as this can also be important. Did you have any particular childhood trauma's, such as bullying, abuse, sexual abuse? Are you experiencing a lot of stress in your life, and how do you react to stress? Has that response changed at all?

If there is a significant amount of time between now and the time you are able to seek help, write all this down in a journal. This will help you assess things, and even help your therapist formulate a treatment sooner for you.
