I have several diagnoses including bpd. I have been staying up till early morning basically until I lay down and pass out. I sleep till s omething wakes me up whether that be someone, an appointment or nature calling or to take meds. it's been getting worse lately but my mood has been high and then crashes. These episodes or whatever don't last for more than 5 minutes at a time for each mood. It's like I'm great and everything is wonderful and peachy and I'm socialbe and incredibly giddy, then I nose dive. I get agitated like pissed off and tearful. When I cry I can be agitated like can't sit still and I usually cry and laugh at the same time as I feel mad and stuff. Like I said I have quite a few disorders and am not sure where this would fit. Anyone have any inklings? I feel like some of Jim Carrey's characters like in the mask or Ace Venture or something, where he changes rapidly and is very dramatic. I'd appreciate any light you can shed. Thanks, Danielle

I have been diagnosed with BPD as well. Ive been in DBT for a couple of months and finding it helpful. Is that an option??
I wish I could say something helpful, but I just want you to know that you are not alone with these feelings.

you may try searching on BPD in the foru. I t hink there are many others that share that dx. There are also meds that may be able to help you moderate your moods. Wish you the best.

I know not getting the proper amount of sleep can be bad for our mind and bodies...

Only suggestion is talk with your doctor to see how you can get a regular amount of sleep for starters...

There is a definite connection between sleep cycle and mood disturbances. Too much or too little sleep can cause depression and/or mania. Any of the mood disorders can be part of the pattern, particularly seasonal affective disorder and bipolar disorder.

There are some free e-books online by Daniel F. Kripke about light therapy and dark therapy and sleep, but his site seems to be malfunctioning at the moment. Here's a link with some information and a link to one of Kripke's books: http://www.sleephomepages.org/books/brightenlife.html

See if any of that helps. Basically, even though it feels natural (for some of us) to stay up and sleep in, etc., we would have more control and be better off if we would get ourselves onto a regular sleep schedule, and get the right amount of light during the day, and enough dark at night too. I'm nocturnal myself, or at least tend to lose time by staying up a few hours later each night until I miss entire days. It wrecks havoc on my mood sometimes. Light therapy helps to control it. It's not the total answer - therapy is important too.
