Well, I want to disclose that I'm speaking from a professional's standpoint on this one as I have never received DBT as part of my own treatment.

As a clinician, I love it. I use DBT for anyone struggling with emotion regulation issues. I mold it, flip it, change it up to suit individual needs. I have not yet had a negative reaction to it regardless of the population I use it with in session.

Still, I'm a very, very young clinician, new to the field, and I have a lot to learn. So, my opinions are untested in the big picture... only a few years old. It's possible that my opinions will change but right now, I love it and I think it's VERY useful as a starting point for treating all sorts of issues for all people... even beyond personality disorders.

Good luck with the group! I hope you enjoy it.

I took DBT classes several years ago for 12 months. I think it depends alot on the facilitator and how they present the material, as well as communicate with each individual.

I personally took nothing usable out of the class, but made a few good friends.

Good luck!

I'm currently in a DBT class. I'm blessed to have 2 wonderful facilitators (one is my individual therapist) and caring classmates. I have learned more about myself in 2 1/2 months of DBT than I did in 7 YEARS of therapy with my former therapist, who did not do DBT. Good luck with your class. Let us know how it goes.

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
