It is just a start for me and I may have a million questions as I go. I have Chronic PTSD and am for the first time in my 38 years of life going to follow thru with counseling and just started taking meds..although I am not going to take the narcotic drugs!! I already have enough problems and don't need to pick up a drug habit also. My counselor agrees about the narcotic drugs.
I have been out of work for a week and just started the medicine and conseling and I am not feeling able or up to going back tomorrow. I have short and long term disability that I purchase seperate from work...does anyone know if I can use this to get some time to adjust to the meds and counseling? I know I should ask HR but everyone knows how the work enviroment really responds to this stuff. Also I believe I have a social disorder and should I ask my counseler about this? or should I wait and let him tell me I have this???
Thank you so much for any advice now and ahead of time as I will be back here to get help as I go thru this and things start to come up I can't handle thinking about I have tried to block!

Hello mismis. Welcome to the PC and this board. Normally companys have to allow LOA. This allows an employee to take off without losing a job because of it. This may depend on the size of the company. That is what i used when i took off for an operation. I would ask your HR department about this. Also you could check with your state employment department to see if there any state laws.

Feel free to ask away. There are a lot of good people here that will help the best they can.

Thank you very much! I went back to the Dr today and he said I was definetly not ready to go back and he would fill out any paperwork I needed for work. I do has short and long term disability and I will be doing short term for now to see how I will be doing after I get used to the meds and counseling. I guess I get three months of full pay for the short term so I might as well try to get better. The hard thing is all the millions of questions everyone at work is asking...I just say I am sick and leave at that. It will be real hard when I go back and people keep asking what I was sick with and I don't answer. I guess this will be a subject for counseling.
The Hr said they would mail me papers for the FMLA but would I need that if I am using disability?
The only thing bad today was that my doctor said I had to take the zanax twice a day now and I told him I was not too keen on taking this med. But I guess I will see how it goes.
Thank you and I am glad I am here! I will need lots of advice as I go.

Dear mismis,Are you taking anything except Xanax? This can be habit forming for some people, however, you sound like someone who would be careful with meds. Keep checking with your employer and the agency from whom you purchase short and long term disability [if this is separate], as needed, when you have questions about such things type of leave you are on. Best of Luck, and Welcome to PC ~ billieJ

Good to hear you got things worked out. I meant FLMA when I said LOA. It protects you. Be sure to read the starting, missing and stopping of the Zanax.
Thanks for this!

You don't have to answer anyone's questions at work. Just say that you want to keep it private.

The other med is Celexa 20 mg and then the Xanax .25mg....I really don't want to take the Xanax and I have told the doctor this and then he uped me to 2x a day. I don't even think it is working anyways as I am still having anxiety. They have diagnosed me with severe anxiety and Chronic PTSD...now my counseler is going to talk to the doctor about PMDD also and that all of these problems are causing a social disorder. I have been back and forth to the doctors everyday! This is very stressful also for me but is what I have to do to try and cope.
Thank you everyone for the advice

Hey mismis - im a lottle late but welcome to psych central

you have received some good advice here - i just wanted to add have you asked your dr if there is an alternative to xanax? i am on cymbalta for anxiety and depression caused by PTSD - I tried 2 other meds before i found this one and it was presciribed by a psychitrist not a dr - my dr had given up by then lol and referred me to a pdoc

I dont know if youve noticed but there is a sticky at the top of the forum wiht grounding techniques - reading those may be helpful.

venting here helps too - this is a great place to give and receive support to get advice and give it when you learn somthing new - and even if its old sometimes we all need reminding of things.

So keep talking and asking it all helps - take care

Thank so much P7! He is taking about changing the med to some kind of
----PAN???

Still sounds like a narcotic according to my hubby. I will see him next week and see I guess. Even the Celexa 20 mg is got me all messed up..Is this normal for this med? I have not taken the zanax although he changed his mind and went back to one a day. Two twice a day had me an unfuntional mess!

its not diazapam is it?

im glad he is reviewing meds - dont forget this is your healing path - it is a partnershhip wiht T' and pdocs jmo - but they should not dictate to you - you have the right to as questions as much as you want -to raise concerns - and to be given informaiton so you can understand whats going on

take care P7

I ask alot a questions...especially cocerning the meds. He seems good about it but he also said I have a axiety also due to the fact that I am scared of the meds. I never thought about that. I have not been taking the xanax but maybe I should tonight so the counseler can see how I am on them and he can tell the doctor as I won't see the doctor till next week.
I don't know?? Live freaking out all time or live like a zombie??? Where do I get a normal life????

It has been since the 21st of Sept. I have been out of work now and I am still going to the Dr./APRN and Counsoler for the Ptsd ect. I was referred to a Chiro for my pain in neck and head that goes to my eyes the Chiro said I have alot of scar tissue and bone spurs and arthritis in my neck and also I am clonus. So he referred me to another Dr to look at me because I have so much scar tissue and he can't loosen it up and I may have to get shots. I went to that dr and he said my reflexs were not normal (hoffmans+) and that I need to go to an neuro for the vertigo that I have had for years and the migranes. He also said that he has only ever seen two people with rflexes like mine that had PTSD but mine was much more worse than them and he dx me with acute cervical myofacial pain syndrome. He said he gave my this dx until we see if it is the PTSD causeing this but I told hime I have always had hyper reflexes like this and other dr just laughed about it. My APRN said not to bother with the nero for now and try out the med meclizine first and not to worry about the reflexs. When I told the Chiro this he couldn't believe he told me this and said it is serious and I was referred by him and the other dr not to wait it has been too long I need to go to the Neuro asap. I don't need a referal but I feel bad about going behind the APRN that has treated me so good to get me better????? Just what I need more problems!!!!!!!! Please does any one know about this reflex stuff (clonus and hoffmans)?????
ADVICE PLEASE!!!!!!!
