My addictions Dr. has suggested that I go IP for trauma treatment, because she's finally recognized the extent that my PTSD drives my desire to drink. Only 1 problem - the only IP trauma program that's at all close to me is at a private psych hospital / addictions treatment facility. I won't name it because it's very well known. I was sent there, by work for addictions treatment and it was an unmitigated disaster, on so many levels. It was clear that they didn't get concurrent disorders at all. But my addictions Dr. reminded me that the trauma program was completely separate from the addictions program, with entirely different staff, so I said I'd at least look into it.
So I check out their website which makes the whole program sound completely wonderful. Then I get to the fine print about admission criteria, and it says you won't be accepted if you're currently being treated for an Axis 1 disorder. Hello - PTSD is an Axis one disorder. And have you ever met anyone with PTSD who didn't also have another mood or anxiety disorder. Guess they only want happy, mentally well adjusted trauma survivors. All that did was serve to reconfirm my belief that the institution knows nothing about current research in mental health and that I wouldn't go back there if they paid me. Guess I'm going to have to look farther afield if I do decide I want to do intensive IP therapy. --splitimage |

I'm sorry about what you have found. Could it be that it is a typo in their information and they meant that they don't treat people with Axis II disorders? You might want to check. I have seen typos that bad or worse in publication information. You wonder who checked it over. I hope you find what you are looking for. ![]() |
