Is there someone out there that can give me advice on how to help someone who has been in combat and feels that he is a horrible person and had done bad things. This person is very close to me and I want to help. At this time he will not talk about things that happened while in Iraq; and he does not want to upset me and make me feel bad. What he does not understand is that I hurt because he is hurting. I have told him that he is not a bad person; he was doing what he had to do. but I am afraid that things are getting out of hand. Please give me ideas I want to help -- he will not go for professional help for fear of losing his job.

The best thing for you to do is to be there for your friend. He might open up, he might not, but he needs someone to be with him. Don't pry about Iraq though.
