I'm more confused, but this might be triggering (?) I've been in therapy for depression since I was a teenager, but I'm just now starting to deal with the PTSD diagnosis. I'm kinda afraid to ask this question, but does any one else have an experience with wanting to hit themselves? I'm sorry to ask, but it's just scary and really new. I've told my therapist about it, but I don't really understand it. This whole new treatment is starting to make its way into every part of my life. Are these part of the flashbacks? Am I just frustrated? This is all very new.

((Jeans and a T shirt)),

Welcome to PC and the PTSD forum. Well, it sounds like you had some PTSD from your teens and somehow it was missed and you were just diagnosed with Major Depression. It would not be the first time this has happened, often PTSD is missed and misdiagnosed as other disorders even.

Well, it sounds like you are finally looking at this a different way, that "could" bring out more triggers for a while, but the point in doing "trauma therapy" is so you can finally understand what is behind your depression and challenges and work through them so you can finally find some resolve.

Depending on the person "some" people can turn anger inward and want to "self punish". Knowing all the symptoms of PTSD is important, but it doesn't mean these challenges can't be reduced with time and therapy.

When you have a question like this you can always do a search on the net and see if what you are struggling with is part of PTSD symptoms. For example, you can type in PTSD and desire to self harm or even hit one's self, you may find something on that urge. Don't be afraid to share things with your T, they are there to help you and can't do that unless you talk about the things that are challenging you.

It is "normal" to hold back from T too, but if you can help yourself work past that and open up more, you will be surprised at how your T might tell you that you are not the only one that struggles this way.
