This is the first time I've been able to write under PTSD section. Well at least I think I'm going to write this. It's over a year now since I was diagnosed, I've had it for much longer, but accepting it - not going so well!!

Everyday I think I'm getting a but better and every day PTSD gets me says "Oh no you're not!!"

I used to love study, my brain used to work quite well. I decided to try studying again. I really applied myself read the first chapter of the text with active learning techniques. I thought I was doing really well until I did the end of chapter test.

I didn't retain it. I know PTSD affects your brain and your ability to remember, but I hadn't faced how much it's affecting mine.

I'm pretty upset about it!

Have any of you found any techniques to help the PTSD brain remember things again?

Thanks

Well, you just tried doing this again, you have to take it slower and learn how to learn again. Do "not" fall into despair about this, try to review the information that you did not absorb that came out in the end of the chapter review and find it in the chapter.

PTSD, being that it is an anxiety disorder can tend to be distracting when you don't realize it. You just need to learn how to be more focused again. Many people who struggle with PTSD will say it is hard for them to read lengthy posts even. So this could be part of what you are dealing with, you just need to keep working at it and the key here is "slowly and patiently".

Time, my friend ... It takes time ...

I've been working on it for 20 years, and while it's been a slow process, I have made some progress.

Just remember to be patient, gentle & kind with yourself.

Getting flustered with ourselves doesn't help!

Thank you sooooo much to all your replies!! Exactly what I needed to hear. All part of the acceptance of why I got PTSD in the first place.

Taking it slow, being gentle with myself.

Thank you all so so so much!!

Active learning is an amazing technique. I think the acronym is SQ4R if you want to google it. My brain is not ready for it yet but I can see that one day it will be.
