Was sexually assualted when I was 14. Am now 38. I was a freshman in highschool when it happened. Have gone to therapy and worked thru it...or so I thought. Would rather forget highschool. Tonight is my 20 year reunion. I decided a long time ago not to go. Seriously having a bad nite. Having flashbacks..I'm afraid to be in my house alone...but afraid to leave.....

I can understand your pain & hope you're being gentle w/ yourself today. It's not an easy thing to work thru!
I was sexually abused in HS & I'm working thru it in my 40's. I've told myself, "gee Patagonia that was so long ago! Can't you let go of the past?" I guess I'll just know when I'm finished working thru it. There will always be triggers & that's when you pull out all those skills you learned about self soothing, grounding etc & make sure they work.

I've never been to any of my HS reunions. Too much trauma assoc w/ that time frame in my life. Who knows maybe you saved yourself from a huge setback by not going you're very strong for having to go thru this all over again. You made it this far!!!
Peace

I am very sorry you are being reminded of something you wish you could forget right now.
It is not unusual to not want to go to a reunion because one doesn't want to be reminded of a very challenging time in their life either. I have things I "avoid" as well and would rather not be reminded of either, it's really normal, you don't have to ever be around that situation again if you don't want to either, that is not a part of your life now, not important, you did move on with your life anyway which is good, that is what you need to remind yourself and be self caring, that is all that is important.
