I have constant flash backs of a traumatic event that happened this past summer. How do I lessen the impact of these flashbacks so they don't prevent me from doing the things I enjoy?

I've found talking with a "trusted" other to be one way. Also writing about it has helped...while this stuff is in my head and I'm alone with it, it has such power ...

I slept for 12-14 hours a day for 2 years to avoid the pain before I realized that I could react differently when I experienced flashbacks. I started going to see my horse when I had flashbacks. I focused on his calm eyes and tried to emulate him. Pets are wonderful.

Hello I hope things are going better for you at this time. There are many thing that help with flashbacks, and your therapist can help you with the appropriate way to deal with the flashbacks. Writing, dancing, martial arts are just some ways to help with flashbacks, but you need to have your therapist establish your best regulator, so that you dont harm yourself mentally from the wrong therapeutic tool. I hope the best for you in your therapy Take care Sincerely Soidhonia

My flashbacks are from traumas some years ago, but one thing that helps me is to draw and write them, and take that into therapy.
