osiyo. this is my first post to the group and on this site in general. I don't officially have ptsd, but from what I have discussed with some people, and some tests I've done, and reading, I believe i'm showing signs. i'm a survivor of the moore 2013 tornados, although to some that wasn't a big deal. I just wanted to come in and make a first post. Wa Do

Hi CherokeeDove

Thank you for introducing yourself to us.

Welcome to Psych Central.

This is a great place to be for online support.

There are a number of Forums here at Psych Central that you are free to browse around. Consider this like your personal Library. Nobody knows what you are looking at really. I could be busy reading Charlie Brown and the Chocolate Factory Book right now paging through the Chapter on Oompa Loompas and you wouldn’t know.

So don’t worry about what Books your Read. You are free to Browse all you like. If you feel like it, you are free to enter a Chapter in a Book in this Library that is available to you. You do this by Creating a Post. Research has shown that those who choose to actively Write gain more from their experience in online forums. You are free to choose whether you Browse or whether you Write a Chapter. If you write a Chapter, please anticipate a response to your Chapter that you have contributed towards our Magnificent Library. And in doing so you unconsciously help others Browse our Special Library too and provide members unknown Knowledge that we are not alone. There are so many just like us. We all have a different Chapter to write. Or a different Book to Read. But there are many of us here at Psych Central that keeps this Library of Knowledge alive. Thank you for being a part of this.

If you need any help or support navigating the site please feel free to contact one our Community Liaisons. We will be happy to help you.

May you find the comfort and support that you deserve.

Take care.

hi cherokeedove
natural disasters certainly qualify as unnatural events that could trigger ptsd because you are in a position where you fear your life is in danger. there are many factors that lead to ptsd and no two people are going to react the same. some people get it and some people dont. it depends on their makeup and support systems, resources during and after the event, a whole number of factors. two people growing up in the same dysfuntional family, on may get it and one not. you just never know. so seeking out counseling if you think you have it would be the most appropriate thing to do. i lived in oklahoma for a year when i was around 8 or 9. we were hiding out in our closets when the tornados were coming. my dad told me to go shut off the tv. both front and back doors were open and i had to pass them to get to the tv. i still remember the terror i felt of believing the tornado was going to come and suck me away. wondering why my dad was willing to sacrifice me. it is scary stuff. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Welcome to Psych Central (PC) CherokeeDove. Sorry to hear you have been suffering from PTSD but glad to hear you are came to PC. I know that as a survivor you don't think that was such a big deal, but on the other hand I saw a documentary about the Moore tornado and it was from the perspective of a family. It was just terrifying to watch.
I believe you when you say you feel you have symptoms of PTSD.

Getting sleep may be the single one thing that keeps me in balance. If you are not sleeping or having bad side affects, contact your doctor or psychiatrist and tell him what is happening so you can make adjustments.

Some people at PC will find a therapist will also help them sort out the roots of their life.

Many people find compassionate, caring people here at PC. Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

There are articles that go into more detail about coping
