I've never heard of any significant connection, but I would imagine a heart-healthy diet might be a good idea for some when considering the effects of hypervigilance, higher heart rates, etc.

I've switched to primarily organic foods and low sugar no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial sweeteners like splenda ect. no caffeine and I feel overall my mental state is better.
In fact caffeine was the first to go and I saw significant improvement in anxiety and chest pains by losing the coffee and soda I miss them dearly but I still get a decaf cup like every 3 months or less just to satisfy my craving but I can defiantly feel the caffeine even in decaf since quitting, so I usually end up regretting it. I also take pharmaceutical grade fish oil only. This is the only info I have on the issue Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Thanks for bringing this topic up! I would have never thought of this connection, but can see how my PTSD is affected by what I am taking in. ThunderGoddess: great point about caffeine and sugar. I do notice when I have more coffee, that i feel more "pressured" and tense, it can kick my hyper alert symptoms into overdrive. Also, when I am very activated/stressed, I reach for carbs to anesthetize myself. Like a blanket smothering a flame, carbs and fatty foods stifle my anger and tamp down my fears. I'm not proud that I do it, but it is like a magic bullet: it always works.
It seems I am aware of this, but I have just pushed it into the back of my consciousness, never really looked at it. This has kind of inspired me to keep track of times when I binge eat or over consume coffee. There are probably things that triggering/disturbing me that I don't want to look at or deal with. |

Yes, I only drank green tea today, no coffee. I notice I too have a problem with high fat snacks. I use lose it to track everything I eat. I'm trying to lose 19 pounds.
