i hope i'm allowed to do this.
if not, feel free to remove the post.. or something i noticed in the original thread for grounding methods, the article is no longer on the website- so new members can't read it or learn about methods. so what about posting some here? (admins.. a chance of making this thread sticky?) |

You use your senses and do 5 things you can see, hear, touch (like feel or touch or sense), and then go 4 things, 3 things, 2 things, 1 thing. It grounds in the present moment. There's also earthing, going outside and feeling the ground beneath your bare feet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I am not sure, I picked that up from another PTSD forum. If I were to guess it would be to bring the focus down and calm the person down. It works for me. I could look it up for you and see if I could find any background information. Another thing you might want to work on is cognitive distortions. My therapist, who specializes in trauma and has worked with veterans and refugees, is helping me work on those things.
