I woke this morning barely functioning and in physical pain from my ongoing relationship problem. Then I stood up to a misguided aggressive person. It wasn't even about me, but it made my heart race for an hour, my whole body shake, severe muscle pain across my back, my neck and wrist injuries and arthritis flare up, even made my scalp itch. I took a bath and still couldn't relax.

I felt the hot wave of stress wash over me and wondered if I am a stress junkie, a massochist, if I am drawn to drama, and seeking it on purpose, like an addiction.

My what a broken down mess am I.

when faced with stress - the kind of stress I think I'm in peril - I physically shut down. No fight, no flight. I just stand there and try to block it out all the while I'm convinced I will be hurt. I don't know how long I do this for. Perhaps it's even a kind of cataconic state. I will 'come to' with people obiously stunned.

I am sorry you struggle on a physical level, I am challenged that way myself. A bad trigger can be especially painful for me, I get pain down my arms and in the muscles across my chest and lower back. I do my best to try to find ways to relax, but it can definitely be exhausting if the trigger is bad enough.

It's interesting how there are different pains for different kinds of triggers. I only get the severe muscle pain across my back when there's a confrontation with people I don't know well. I noticed that sensation only started when I started working a few years ago in a new field.
