Hi all, i don't know if i have pts but would not be surprised, iwas wondering how long it can last if untreated?. The reason I ask is that most of the things that would have caused t for me happened a very long time ago. This was identified as a concern on my sanity score.

Well mine started when I was 7 and I'm 52 now. I still have to work on it to this day... mine seemed to get worse the longer it was left untreated. I'm in therapy for it now but it is a very difficult process. Good luck.

I have had quite a few traumatic events through my life and to be honest it doesn't go away , at least not for me but I am still finding ways to live with them .

Mine have gone from as a child to 2009 (when I kicked my ex-fiance out). I still live with them now but they've become easier to handle.

It could last until the day you die (sad to say). I suggest seeking professional help. Hugs.

oh, from what I have read the symptoms seem similar to bpd which I have so iam not sure if i need to broach this subject with my cc or not i feel she will just put it down to the bpd or dismiss it as their resources are stretched so.

If you're talking about CPTSD then there is some debate over overlaps with borderline personality disorder, but I don't know much about that. A professional opinion would be best. |

I believe mine kicked in heavily around age 14, but I had it starting around age 6 I believe. I'm 42 now and it's just gotten worse. I haven't gotten adequate treatment yet though and that is probably very important. I hope you find something which makes it all go away soon. It's psychological torture. ((((Hugs)))

hi Crimsoncat. PTSD can last a long long time depending on a number of variables (one time event vs multiple, age of the person when the trauma occurred, etc). Therapy can help reduce the symptoms and give you better coping skills. As many others have said, the sooner you are able to get into therapy the better

Hi there,
PTSD can be brought on by such a vast array and multitude of things, it's very difficult to answer this in a generalized sense. There are a plethora of details one would need to be made aware of, concerning your particular case, what the onset was, how it's affecting or impairing you or others, how long its been going on, etc, etc, etc, before one would be able to gain an understanding of the complexity of your (any given) case, allowing them the time and opportunity to be able to diagnose and treat you. As some of the others have already stated, it can last until the end of your existence (and if you believe in the afterlife...maybe it continues...hahaha). Sorry, just a bit of humor there. But, all jokes aside, I've been there, and still am. Been 10 years now, and I'm still very much in the middle of this struggle. I sure hope to be 'better' as soon as possible, but, implementing the use of reason and rationale, from a semi-educated position on these types of issues, given my particular situation, I don't know if I'll ever again reach a state of 100% homeostasis -- though, that sure is my aim. Really, I just want to be able to enjoy life again, on any level..... Best to you bud -- be well & try to do more of the things that make you happy! |

It's my understanding that PTSD never goes away, there's no cure due to changes in the brain, but it can be managed.

Mine started when I was in college but didn't get really bad until about 10 years ago. Then I had more traumatic experiences and am still struggling with those. It's really weird how they can pop up weeks months years later. Also mine turned into deep depression as an outlet too. So yeah it's just something I guess you have to learn to manage as Terish says
