I found a one hour audio recorded seminar presentation (together with a powerpoint presentation) available for free online.

John Briere (PhD) talking about the "Self Trauma" Model of Complex (Relational) Trauma. Typically... Looks like you pay about a hundred bucks to see him do that in person (food is included though lol) and there isn't much of a question session.

He explains (fairly briefly admittedly) what complex trauma is
What some of the symptoms are (and why they are exhibited)
And he outlines his "self trauma" model.

You can also find an article that he wrote a few years back off his homepage (if you google him). I think this is promotional because he has come out with a new book just this year.

It is quite a nice model. Non-judgemental. I think Briere might do for trauma what Linehan does for borderline personality disorder. Anyway, here it is in case anyone is interested:

This is a very good description of what your therapist is doing if you go are going through CBT exposure therapy. I have bee doing this for 2 years and it has been very helpfu.

Thank you for sharing that. This may sound weird, but I found the video validating and I needed that today. Attempting to address some early, early traumas... that stuff is HARD.

titrated exposure (as opposed to flooding), yeah.

he is upfront about taking aspects from CBT, self psychology etc

Where he may differ from CBT (and here it depends on the therapist) is in seeing it as an understandable, even normal, response to unfortunate circumstances. So... No cognitive 'restructuring' though a little reframing.

Yeah, I found it validating too

Thats how come I put it here.
