For myself it has been both, it may be different for others, I can only speak of my own situation. From early sexual abuse that lasted until
around sixteen not knowing then that alot of other problems were
caused from PTSD. Then becoming a victim of a violent crime has
caused PTSD at a whole new level thats why it is probably different
for everybody. Hope this makes some sence, I am new to trying to
post even though I have been here a little while.

happy, I've had ptsd for most of my life. The kicker is, I didn't know that until about ten years ago. Oh, I knew there was something wrong with me but I blamed myself and didn't even see what had been happening to me as abuse.

So I guess my answer is, I think you respond to trauma immediately but that doesn't mean you necessarily see or understand what's happening inside you.

Hi Flower for me my PTSD, came on early when I was a child in the

early years from abuse. I Had trouble with it in Middle school,

then I seem to handle it pretty well in High School. Then in my

early 20's it hit me like a ton of bricks. So it's seems to have

affected me at different ages in my life. I have had anxiety and

depression to which seems to go hand in hand with my situation.

Thats my situation though...yours maybe completely different,

but I hope that helps.

Take Care

For me I am really unsure, because I actually don't remember much of life before 15 and actually continued being abused in some way pretty much my whole life thus far. I have had PTSD for awhile now, which stemmed from my childhood history of SA but then I was sexually assaulted this last May and so that hit me automatically, the PTSD got majorly worse and still is, but I am working on it. But I think it really just varies for every person.
