i'm not sure where is the right place for this but i think ptsd might have something to do with it. my wife and my therapist want me to try speech therapy but i don't know if i'm ready to do that. i got a lot of problems talking. i got problems from my mom drinking when she was pregnant with and some brain damage. i stutter a lot a slure a lot and just plain don't know the right words sometimes. some of it i can't change from the damage and my doctor told us that but they still think some therapy could help. i'm really really embarassed about it. i don't like talking on the phone at all to even my friends and my family or talking to people in public or ordering in resturantes. i really wish i could talk better but its got more to do with that a lot of stuff i ain't talked about in therapy yet. stuff like my step father used to yell in my face when i stuttered and i got scared to talk. i don;t know if i'm ready to talk about that stuff yet but i don't know when i will be.

(((((((((((sincity)))))))))))) I think you have to be comfortable going, but I also think it's ok to be scared---just remember you don't have to stay if you do go and can't handle it. It might be a good step.

Go ahead and try....my son took it for years...It really helepd alot. He could not speak at all. Sometimes forming words ...they are in your head ,,,,just need a way for your brain to be retrained to get them out...
It is ok to be scared...its ok to admit it...and yes sometimes are speech gets stuck when we are scared...
As far as your step father goes ..he was wrong to yell at you...time and patinece is what helps the words come out....
If i am yelled or feel anger coming...i go quiet...its a copying thing...
Try the speech therapy....you do matter......the words are in you ...

I think you may have picked a good forum for this. Tell me, can you sing ok? Many people who stutter can sing perfectly smoothly. If you can, then try sing-songing your words a little, and see if they flow more easily.

It surely could be a psychological issue. Maybe always being stopped when you tried to speak, as though what you said wasn't important. Then the fear of not speaking at the right time, or saying the right thing, and the result from your step-father, for sure could add to the problem.

You write just fine, btw.

thank you guys for writing back. i do sing sometimes but just to my wife and it ain't like it sounds right haha. i don't really stutter when i'm at home i'm not nervous around them. i ain't been to much school and i guess i talk like it. when i try to talk better i think about it to much and get nervous and stutter more. it's like it know the right things to say but i forget or i get confused. the sluring i can't help and that's the worse. i been pulled over before and the cops thought i was drunk cause of it.
