found this site by accident... took the sainity quiz which only confirmed what i have known for years, although i am surprised it is not much higher.

i really dont know what to say... it was suggested i seek help, but i cant afford help. last time i talked to anyone that tried to honestly help me was when i was in the army (right before i got my medical discharge) and right after my second attempt to end my life (although he thought i did it by accident and closed the case)... that was well over 15 years ago.

i would love to get help... but i have no idea how and i have no money to pay for it. insurance is too expensive, i have to support a family and the only insurance i can afford comes with a 2k deductable... which means its useless.

i am sorry if i sound like i am complaining or whining.

If you live in the States you may be able to locate either free services or services based on a sliding scale through the particular state you live in. You could try to go to the state’s website and locate the Division of Health and Human Services or similar office and through that office they could direct you to mental health services available to people in your area. Some of these agencies provide low or no cost services and medication if you are financially unable to afford them.
Good luck and I wish you the very best.

If you were medically discharged from the service but did serve some time, you may be eligible for health benefits thru the VA. The only way you will know is if you apply.

I would look at your local health clinics/mental health centers if you live in a good-sized city, there's often free/inexpensive help available. Call a crisis line in your area and ask them for a referral, what's available. Another place to check is the library; they often have State and County health-related pamphlets or the librarian at the information desk might be able to help.

With the new health care laws, everyone is legally forced to have health insurance (BS, I know, cuz it is expensive) BUT I think this means that they are going to also be forced to offer more affordable plans. Also, there should be at least a few free programs, in CT we have 211, an information/crisis number that you can ask just about any question and get reffered to the right places. Sometimes some operators are more helpful than others, if you aren't satisfied with whoever answers your call, call back in five minutes!!

Good luck, and if you had any affiliation with the army I would think the VA would help, though who knows with the way our govt works. A friend of mine, a 65 year old Vietnam vet, with severe arthritis, homeless, was REFUSED foodstamps and medical coverage- they told him to go to the VA, in another state, and said that he couldn't get foodstamps because he could technically work even though his doctor submitted the forms explaining how debilitating his arthritis is)

i know people are trying to help... but for some reason all i read are accusations...

i cannot afford benefits that dont have massive co-pays... my copay for a doctors visit is over 70$ and i am the only income in my family... i can pay for the doctor, or my daughter can eat and have clean clothes.

that is the choice i have to make.

i make too much to receive assistance but not enough to afford paying for anything that will actually help me.

as for the VA i have no idea how to even begin. like i said i never finished basic becuase i attempted to kill my self 2 times while there. oince while left alont another when the sgt said somthing along the lines of 'if you want to kill yourself just do it'

i have not clue one how to get help and i cant seem to make myself do it... i dont know how. even posting here i want to erase everything i written and pretend like it didnt happen.

i just dont know what to do.

Does this website help at all?
http://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/VAMentalHealthGroup.asp

Not accusing you of not trying. I just know of the main VA website and resources from somewhere I used to work and having to deal with those offices. But for all I know, you might have already tried it. And I'm pretty sure only being there 6 months doesn't get any benefits. The main number/operators should be able to tell you that though..I've gotten all kinds of info I shouldn't have from those people. Sad thing is that if you claim to currently be suicidal, you could probably get more information than if you said you attempted it 15 years ago. The health system in this country is screwy that way.

Other than that.. My suggestion - Just post and keep reading. You might be able to help yourself without a professional depending on what it is. Whatever the quiz pointed to that concerned you then just read up on it as much as you can.
