What are some things that one can do while on an atypical anti-psychotic medication to reduce the chances of developing hyperglycemia and/or diabetes?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's due to the change in metabolism that the AP may cause.

So, go to regular blood tests that your doctor should recommend to make sure nothing is going wrong with that.

Otherwise, I guess there are just the normal preventative measures from diabetes, such as keeping your weight healthy, not eating too much sugar, plenty of healthy veggies, fruit, carbs, protein. Just a sensible diet and exercise.

I will have a look for any other evidence of other things that may help though, and let you know if I find anything.

The other poster is right. I am diabetic and went on mood stabilizers that brought on high sugars......only if you didnt care for yourself right. What they do is make us more lazy, for lack of a better word. and if you are already at risk you need to be extra careful.

PM me if I can be of any more help. Good luck. Its not that hard. I wish you well
