I just started taking my prozac last night (only 10mg and moving up slowly). Today I am super pumped. I clean houses for a living and started a new 5000 sq foot house today. Finished that in like 6 hours and then came home and worked out (with weights) as I always do but was crazy pumped and finished what is normally an hour workout in 45 minutes. Doesn't seem like much time difference, but it is when you consider the exact same work out and I even went over my reps on just about every set before realizing it. I'll likely be a little sore tomorrow.

My question is this ... is this normal for the first day on prozac or could I be bipolar after all and this actually be a little mania. Cause I'm not taking anything but prozac.

I really like it though I'm not gonna lie. lol I feel wonderful ... and full of energy. But my mind is racing a little ... which was normal for me before. But it was more like racing negative thoughts before. Now it's just kinda adhd.

I found it made me similar, but more in a shaking way most of the time. At some points I felt manic in what I was doing, but I certainly didn't feel happy. Inside it just created massive anxiety.

It ended badly for me, as they didn't take me off it right away, and I wasn't in the state to do it myself.

I'd go back in a couple of days to your doctor if it doesn't calm down, because you never know whether it's going to go too far and put you in danger.

Yeah I'll try it out for a little while. I've let the boyfriend know what signs to look for as well. Either way ... it's a hell of a lot better than being the ticked off all the time.

Any other advice is welcome too

My Zoloft hypomania started out a lot like your story. I would call the doc and just let them know. They can decide what to do. I didn't realize the Zoloft could switch me so I thought the anxiety and hyperactivity was part of recovering from depression. I would have called my NP earlier otherwise.

I took Prozac for 3 years, was off it for 2years and went back on it 2 years ago. It never affected me that way. As a matter of fact it improved my depression a little at a time so I didn't even realize the difference. I just noticed one day I was not as depressed. One side effect that I did have was that it doesn't allow me to sleep very well. The Dr. added Trazodone because it has sedative effects so I take one before I go to bed. If I forget it doesn't take long before I realize it.

To have such a reaction in only one day seems a bit extreme. I'd mention it to your Dr. just to be sure. Good luck.

Just an update ... I have since increased up to 20mg and I am doing wonderful. I don't know what happened that first day, but nothing crazy like that anymore. Just cool as a cucumber! I love it and it seems as though prozac IS my medication.

Thanks for your support and comments.
Thanks for this!

has any one heard of a Prozac 80mg that u take once a week? The doc mentioned it to me today for me and my daughter (who is 15) and we both have a "metabolic disorder" because we have side effects with any medication. IM on Lamectal 50mg now and they want me to start 50mg twice a day and add prozac 80mg daily. Any input i would appreciate it.?
