I stopped lamictal after being on it for 7-8 weeks (at 200 for 2-3 weeks). My GP suggested stopping it late last friday due to some health concerns and needed tests. The tests are still ongoing, one just seems to require another one........so I have no definitive answer as to what my physical health is (thyroid). Now I realize that the lamictal was helping my depression despite the physical pain I was feeling. Has anyone just restarted .......... I have 200 mg. tablets that I am sure I could quarter. It seems these issues always fall on a friday late.......and I do not want to be thought of as a difficult patient......

While you're waiting for someone who knows, I just wanted to send you my support. I've been told that psychiatrists accept that people need them at odd times. Have you left a message? Why suffer 2 days more than you need to?

Dasiy6 - Unfortunately, you should wait for the results of the tests. I wouldn't just restart the Lamictal (lamotrigine), as it could affect any clinical effects that the doctor is looking for. I believe that this is one of those situations in which you have to endure short term pain for long term gain. I understand your frustration and have been there myself.
Hopefully your doc will get back to you by Monday, but if he hasn't called by Wednesday, start to bug him (...er, politely phone his office and ask if your test results were able to give the doctor any insight into your condition. Also tell the receptionist how you are feeling and talk about the concerns you have about the present state of your depression. Don't over-emote, but just state, matter-of-factly, that you are concerned about your health and that your family is worried about your emotional state. Hang in there, it takes time to be able to taylor the best possible medication regimen for your particular situation. This is easy to say, but it doesn't make your current situation any more bearable. Your present emotional state will not last forever, and hopefully your doc can help you dig your way out of "the dark pit". Good luck - Cam |
