Hello,
I take Cymbalta 60 MG x 2 and have a new insurance plan.
They have a $3K cap each year on benefits.
I called my pharmacy and it retails for $600 and the insurance plan does get some discount off retail, but that still puts me at about $500 a month towards the cap.
Has anyone had good results with going from Cymbalta to some other low cost depression medicine? I also have fibro (taken care of by Lyrica) and anxiety (taken care of by Xanax). I am also wondering about the chage from Cymbalta to something else and the "reaction" it will have on my mind. And, yes I will discuss this next month with my PDOC, but wanted to ask if anyone has had any good results, in case he gives me options for a new med.

I would put a call into your doctor now instead of waiting until next month because it will take some time to transition off of the Cymbalta. There are certainly meds that you can substitute for Cymbalta. Your physician would know best. Good Luck, that is an awful lot to pay for one antidepressant when there are substitutes out there, i just don't know which ones are best.

Cymbalta works on serotonin and norepinephrine. A compatible will have to be found that works on the same neurotransmitters.

Hey,

I've taken Cymbalta before. There's an older medication called nortriptyline that's just as activating. It's on Walmarts $4/mo prescription formulary. Nortriptyline is also an SNRI and it isn't nearly as sedating as most tricyclics.

DrugStore.com has priced a month supply of 60 mg tablets of Cymbalta at $140. And, I know there's no generic formulation. Your paying $500/mo? What? Ever heard of Effexor? Effexor is like Cymbalta's brother. It's a SNRI as well. It's not a tricyclic, so its much safer and tolerable. They are equally potent. DrugStore.com has priced a month's supply of 75 mg tablets of generic Effexor (called venlafaxine) at $60. These prices should be relatively close to what your pharmacy is charging.

try contacting the manufacturer of cymbalta & applying for their assistance program. If you qualify you can get it for free.

I changed from Cymbalta 120 mg to Effexor XR. My insurance jacked up the co-pay on the Cymbalta. I have fibro too, and the Effexor seems to help it.
