Why do we do things like this? I know, it's useless. It's stupid, ok. Today alone over 12 hours, I've had 3days worth (12 immediate-release gelcaps) of an OTC diuretic containing Pamabrom. Plus the caffeine in diet sodas, and diet pill. Yesterday I had other stuff, too. I know that once I stop this I will have joint pain, etc. I feel effects of it. My head aches, stomach is screwed up. I know it's not healthy to do these things. I ate half a bagel and a granola bar today--very good, I think! How am I going to know if I *really* go too far? I can't trust myself to go to a hospital because I like to try and "tough it out" when I am sick. I have oral surgey coming up on June 4th--that dentist and I will both be in trouble, I think, if I don't quit these habits by then. He won't be able to do his work because I will clot too fast and will be too dehydrated, etc.

Hi there,
I'd talk with my doctor if I were you.
Diuretics, especially prescription ones can work fine for edema when prescribed but a doc should really be the one to determine if that is what you have and then he or she will be the one to prescribe what you need.
OTC ones are okay, and like all meds OTC or Prescription should only be taken as directed. You mention joint pain, this can come from a number of things which require different meds.
Diuretics abuse or just over usage can over tax your kidneys, strain the heart, big dangerous factor is upsetting the bodies electrolytes, potassium level, which really can mess up your heart.
Please consult your doc ASAP, maybe even have a physical to determine for sure what is behind your joint pain and/or edema, then your doc can get you proper treatment.
Ignoring what your body needs can cause more damage than good. Also discuss this before your oral surgery, with the oral surgeon, there is no point of putting your health into jeapordy.
I wish you luck with all of this, please take care.

I don't have much time, less than 2 minutes. But the joint pain I mention would be from diuretic withdrawal. The diuretic I have been taking is part of a bad eating habit thing. Some call it an eating disorder. I'm not sure what I call it yet. Diuretic Abuse
