I had a weird reaction to Trazadone last night. I used to take it about 10 years ago for depression. One of the best things about it was that 50 mg of it used to knock me out cold. Lately, I've been having a really hard time sleeping, so I asked my doctor for a Trazadone prescription. I took 75mg and got sleepy but at the same time I got that "caffeine feeling," where your body's tired but your mind is too wired to sleep (I've cut caffeine out completely, so it wasn't due to anything I ate or drank). I was up until 2am and could only sleep after dissolving Benadryl under my tongue. Can one's body chemistry change like that? I was SO looking forward to getting a good night's sleep... any tips? (even with Benadryl I wake up in the middle of the night and obsess about bad things happening to the people around me). Thanks for any feedback! Lauren.

Yep, our bodies change, brain chemistry, I am no expert by all means, but meds that worked or didn't work so often do the opposite over time, why? I have no idea, but know it happens.
Maybe the brain becomes "immuned", life changes, hormones, can be factors in this? Traz, never did nice things for me, 2 days and I was off of it, even pdoc agreed. It gave me a huge headache the morning after, constipation, all those nasty things . . . yet my one brother says its great for him. Best thing to do is take this reaction up with the prescribing physician, perhaps a change of meds will help. Take care now, DE __________________ |

I agree with DE, our bodies do change! Actually I think every 7 years, according to scientists, every cell has "changed." And yes, especially medications and our reactions. I, too, did NOT have a pleasant experience with this med. But the good thing is, Lauren, in the 10 years since you've taken it, there are plenty of other meds to try now!

Sky,
I heard that same number, "7" years, I am starting feel that is so true, but you have to "live" a lot of years to see, feel, the differenace, eh? 48yrs for me, is enough to convince me "science" is right. . . again. Now, I ask myself, the sags and bulges, where will they be in the next 7? Bigger, smaller, or will I not be here to know the answer. ha!ha! That's me. Thanks for the replies. I didn't know body chemistry could change like that. I guess I'd better ask for another prescription, huh? Lauren.
