I have been taking Cymbalta since March (?) I have not had any weight gain, in fact I am losing due to some dieting. I am on higher than normal doses because I have fibromyalgia and it is supposed to help with pain at the higher doses. I really haven't noticed any side effects, but I haven't had any side effects to any ssri's or similar ones. Maybe only trouble sleeping and vivid dreams, but for these I take meds for sleep. In my opinion, I would give this med a try, it works differently than just the plain ssri's (prozac, paxil, zoloft, lexapro).

I've been on this since late August of last year, and it's a mixed bag for me: not entirely effective for depression for me, and it has caused some amotivation. Adding Wellbutrin helped a lot, for me, to augment the antidepressant effect, and to counter the amotivation.

I'm not sure about weight effects, because I'm also being treated for anorexia, so whether my weight changes are related to the medication or the nutritional counseling is really hard to tell.

I like the drug, overall, and think it's certainly worth trying. Have you tried Effexor? The effects are similar, although not the same. If Effexor was somewhat effective for you, I would bet that there would be some benefits to trying Cymbalta.

Hope that helps.

Im on 120mg and been for 6 months after effexor 150mg wasnt doing anything for me anymore. As far as weight gain it didnt make me gain anymore then i already have and ive found it to be easier to deal with stress things and also reduced my nitemares when sleeping.

It killed my sex drive to the point where looking at any girl to me was like looking at a guy. That has slowly been decreasing where my drive is coming back. However over all i would say ive had a really positive time with it.
