My pdoc has me on all three drugs. I started with 3 mg Xanax when I started therapy early in 2004. My T suggested it to my primary care doctor. Then a year later he suggested we adjust my antidepressant and I told him I was not taking anything. He got very concerned and had me make an appointment with a pdoc for the medication aspect of my treatment. The pdoc I chose also does some therapy with me and is friends with my T so I wrote out that they can share info about me. He prescribed 20 mg Lexapro every night. Then, last month, my pdoc started my on seroquel. This is the drug my mother took for schizophrenia just before she died. I read that it was also for bipolar and my pdoc once mentioned that I might be that as well as suffering from major depression and general anxiety. These drugs are supposed to make me sleep but they do not always seem to work that way. I do feel calmer but also detached from reality when taking them. Does anyone else take this combination?

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate hearing from people - I do not get on very often and have started a post only rarely although I have replied to others on occasion. This is a good group of people and I have told a number of other people about it and about the support you can get here.

Maya,

I have taken so many of these meds, they kinda have become a whirlpool of bad reactions. For the last 11 years, I have had the Dx of Major Depression Recurrant, Major Anxiety. I had finally gotten the problems under control without the use of any meds & therapy hadn't really done very much....(I found out that this is how my pdoc sees it & doesn't really understand). I was hit by a trauma at the end of last year, with my Mother's death to top it all off. I was so sick & exhausted due to everything I was living through that my pdoc decided to have me take klonopin. It quit working within weeks of starting & when I finally made it home, I found some seroquel that had been perscribed quite a while ago.

My problem due to the trauma & PTSD that came following it causes horrible nightmares & depersonalization issues. I experimented with the dosages of the seroquel until I found the level that works to knock me out at night. It allows me to sleep but I still have the depersonalization issues I am dealing with. Sometimes it is hard to tell if that might come from the med or if it is from the illness. Sometimes I feel that way & take the seroquel & it feels even worse....sometimes I take the med & dont feel that way.....

With me it is just so hard to tell what is causing what.....but I love it that I can sleep better now & that is worth a lot.

Debbie

I've taken Seroquel and Lexapro, but not at the same time. Seroquel did help with my sleep, but I had physical side effects with Lexapro. I have Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder too. Feel free to PM me, and welcome to psych central!

Whew! Maya, I don't know about the first two drugs on your list of coctails here, but I can tell you from having taking Xanax for anxiety over the years that it is very addictive, and after only a few months of taking it, I felt increased anxiety, so took higher dosage in trying to get relief! It was a vicious cycle, and finally I took myself off it, feeling much in the way of withdrawal, which lasted several days. Sleep was impossible.
I won't take it again.
