I was prescribed Paxil for GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) although it was a misdiagnosis (I am bi-polar). Even though Paxil eventually stopped working for me, it helped a great deal by calming my fears/anxieties when it was working for me. It may take up to 6 weeks to gain the full effect of the med, but you should start to notice changes in about two weeks.

Give it some time to start working; it may be a great med for in battling your panic attacks and depression.

Dolfin, Thank you for your reply. I am a little anxious about starting to take the paxil. I don't think my fears are that high with the panic attacks but more that this is for depression for which I am now. But maybe they work hand in hand.I guess it can't hurt to try.
Thanks

HI, Dusty,
Yes, I have been on Paxil for several years now; prior to that Prozac since 1992.
I had suffered throughout my entire life, since childhood from depression and anxiety. The medication was a Godsend to me.
Last summer, however, since I was so happy and doing so well, my physician suggested reducing the Paxil. The result was increased anxiety and depression. Since then, he has upped my dosage back to the orignal amt, which didn't work for me, to now taking 40 mg. daily. It finally seems to be working for me again.
There is no reason to live with depression and anxiety if the medication helps you. I am finally feeling optimistic and strong again.
