I took geodon for about a year. It worked quite well. It is sedating though, so take in a few hours before bedtime.
Thanks for this!

I had to take mine twice a day and it made me incapacitated. Like I could literally NOT STAY AWAKE. And when I was awake I was incoherent. I only lasted about a week on it and I had to stop, my husband was having to take off every afternoon to pick my son up from school. I had to just quit it. I know not everyone has this experience, but mine was awful!
Good luck.

It was really sedating for me. I would be literally falling asleep at lunch. However, it did help (temporarily) with the voices. So don't fret, it may work well for you.
Thanks for this!

I am lucky my dad works just down the road from campus, so if I take it in the afternoon and feel incapable of functioning I can crash in the student lobby till he gets off work, we are going to ride home together just incase I get too drowsy to drive...

Is it odd for a pdoc to diagnoise an antipsychotic in the first appointment? It seemed a little odd and a bit extreme to me that she right off the bat prescribed me an antpsychotic. I am bipolar (offically diagnoised today) and I read in the instruction pamphlet that came with my samples it's used to treat bipolar disorder, but the info I read here in the drug information section, says it's for short term use, and should only be pescribed after other meds don't work, pdoc said she pescribed it to me because there is a history of heart dieases and diabetes in my family and this would be lower risk in agitating those condtions...

I am just very confused on the manner....

It didn't do much of anything for me. No bad side effects, no useful effects, nothing.

I heart Geodon, but Geodon doesn't heart me back. The first time I took Geodon, it made me feel amazing, but then I got tics. The second time around I had seizures.

The one big problem I had with it was that around 30 minutes after taking it I would literally pass out. Apparently at higher dosages, you don't really experience that.
Thanks for this!

They gave me 40mg twice a day to start out with this week, and then when I go to fill my prescription I am going to be on 60mg twice a day. So far I am feeling great, and for once I can focus and my thoughts aren't racing and I'm stable mood wise, my only complaint is my jaw feels a bit tight, which makes me concerned I'm going to develop tics, I"m having friends and family watch me and asking them to let me know if I start ticking..I have even asked my professors to notice if I start developing them..

Hi Typo. I'm on 60mg twice a day. It doesnt sedate me or give me any side effects. It's done wonders for me. I guess i'm one of the few its actually helping. Try it out and see how you do on it. You can always stop.

well my first dose went okay, but after I took my second dose for the day I passed out, I barely dragged myself into bed before I feel asleep, and wouldn't have woken up this morning if it wasn't for my phone going off, and I still feel like I have a hangover or something.. I"m not sure if I am going to take it again today or not, that really scared me last night...

Give it a week or 2. The side effects could lessen or go away. Whatever you do, do not stop taking your medication with out talking to your doctor first.

Ok then...

Geodon has been a life saver for me! I haven't had a manic episode since fall 2006! And it doesn't make me overly tired...just calm.

I am with chalmette. I have tried everything, Abilify, Zyprexa Zydis, Invega. Geodon keeps me level headed way more than they do, and though I have less energy than I did with Abilify I am a hundred times more stable. I am even working out at a gym and I drive all the time, even after I take it. It hits me maybe two to three hours after taking it I will feel tired. Supposively it works best with food in your stomach, so I have always followed those guidelines. I guess I have a lot of energy and am anxious usally and the Risperdal that I take also causes Akithisia, so I am on sleeping medications during the day time to help with anxiety plus Geodon and I am an alert driver and take care of a lot of crap each day. I think I could even go to school again with Geodon in my system but I don't know how to pay for it or fit it into my schedule. All in all, Geodon is my drug of choice, and it also suppresses your appetite so you don't have to worry about gaining weight either. That is my experience with it.

Shaky is different than having a tic. A tic will just be one area of your body having irregular movements/twitches sort of. Shakiness is, well, shakiness. I used to have the shakes on lithium for instance. It made writing difficult.

Just make note of how often it is happening. You may find it will go away in a few days. I know I remember some twitches here and there, but they never lasted for any length of time, so I didn't worry about it too much. If it seems to not be stopping or it gets worse, certainly mention it to your doctor.

Geodon made me very restless and I think gave me restless leg syndrom. the only way i could sleep was on my back with my legs propped up. i think it also messed with my hormones and made me sweat and even after I stopped taking them I'm still sweating.

My husband just went on it (middle of June) and believe me, it sure made a world of difference. It didn't take too long to kick in.

what dosage are you supposed to take? He takes 120 mg - two 60 mg tablets. He takes all of it at night, and sleeps all night - even snores!! And then in the morning, he's ready to get up. he says he slept enough. So he dosen't have that hung-over feeling, or not like he dosen't want to get up (like before)

I am coming off of Geodon now. I have been on it for three years. I started getting involuntary jaw movements. I am trying to reduce the number of drugs so my doc is not going to start me on anything else unless I need it. So far so good. My moods seem to be getting better as I am dosing down. I was a little hesitant about talking to her about reducing medications, but she was receptive to the idea. It helped when I needed it, but I think I am in a better place now with more coping skills.
