on my meds.

I currently take effexor xr at 187.5 mgs. As you may or may not know, I dont have insurance. Also Effexor xr does not come in the 187.5 dose so I have to pay for 2 rx's per month which is about 220.00 per month. Well, yesterday I only took the 150 mg pill and not the additional 37.5 because I just can not afford both rx's.

Today I have a headache. I assume from the drop in dosage. I didnt call the DR. But I will on Monday. I feel like crap.

Please dont lecture me, I know that I am stupid for doing this without telling my doc first. I just need to know when will the headaches end?

(((((((((((((((jen))))))))))))))))) i can't answer that. how about calling your pharmacist? they can give you LOTS of information about the starting AND stopping of meds.

Jen, what you did isn't worth a lecture. You're being smart about weaning slowly instead of stopping it completely. That's only a 1/5 dose reduction. I wouldn't think your doc would be upset.

I hope your headache ends soon. Weening myself down

jmo...please try this link for free medicine. Wyeth puts out Effexor..and they do have a pt. assistance program.

While I was waiting for my disability programs to begin...had no money to pay for my meds. If it had not been for Glaxo-wellcome's PAP..I don't know where I'd be. Let me know if this can help you. So many folks are falling thru the cracks out there. These programs are designed to take care of that situation. Take good care!

i know you'll think i'm crazy, but my pharmacist and i counted those little balls in the capsules. that is how carefully i came off effexorXR. i had headaches and my head felt like rocks were tumbling around in it. eventually, it all passes and you'll feel better. it's just part of coming off of something that our body has gotten used to. i get all my psych meds free. most every company has a program. i take prozac, wellbutrin, lamictal and cytomel. FREE. good luck.

Yeah, those programs can be a real godsend. Lots of people don't even know they exist. Let us know what happens when you talk to the pharmacist, if you feel comfortable. Pharmacists are generally very cool about talking to people about this stuff.

Thanks Pat and Ben. I have to go pick up my RX from the pharmacy today. I dropped it off the other day but have not been able to get there to pick it up. My head hurts so bad. I felt really sick yesterday. I wonder if that is all in my head or if it is a side effect of this. I have been sleeping as much as I can because that is all I feel like doing. I was given a Web site, Needymeds.com. I think I will check that out. In the meantime, I just hope these headaches go away.

Thanks,

Huggles,

Jen

WI & Dottie Weening myself down Weening myself down Weening myself down Weening myself down

Thank you. I remember when I started this med I started at 37.5 then increased to 75 then 112.5, 150 and finally 187.5. I had to increase slowley because I am very sensative to this med. There was prolly a 4 week time in between each increase, maybe more, I cant remember right now. I knew it wasnt smart to just up and stop all together so weaning down was my only option.

I agree, I dont think ppl realize how many ppl have trouble getting their meds. Not just for mental health but any med. I remember my grandmother was on a fixed income and had to pay mega bucks for her meds. It was close to 400.00 per month for her meds. Its very sad that it is like this. Weening myself down

Thank you Dottie, I will check it out.

jmo531,
You wrote,[...I feel like (expletive)...when will...end?..].
I could offer you support from my perspective if you would like. There are many aspects to this that make an answer to your question dependant on them.
There is an expanding body of knowlege concerning the effects of psychotropic drugs and their discontinuation. I have overcome addiction to a class of drugs that was prescribed to me and have helped many to be unchained from the shackles of addiction. If you find yourself going throgh a withdrawal syndrome, there is a way to overcome.

Lou, i don't think that JM is talking about addiction. she is quitting Effexor because she doesn't have insurance. there is a big difference in having to quit a drug and being addicted to it.
