I was prescribed Seroquel XR last year and used it for about 8 months. I noticed when I first got on this med that something was not right. I was reading a book one night, and words started to change on me. For I instance, the word "doubt" suddenly changed into "die". And I was taken aback , it startled me. I would read some more and noticed occasionally words changed into other violent/sexual words. I finally got off of this med, and this problem is still persisting. It doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally startles me. I also noticed sometimes I mistake objects for other things, but it only lasts a second.
Never had this problem before meds.

Hi bpdruins,
That does sound disconcerting. Sounds like it might be an anxiety response? Although I don't know why you would still have this. Can you go back to your doctor and explain the situation? Good luck...

That happens to me too. I never told my doc maybe I should.

Really? Do you still take the meds? If you ask the doc and he gives you answer please let me know. I would appreciate it.

I did explain to him, but he ignored it, and told me to take more. I was stuck in this situation, I realized this guy was a quack at that point, and possibly sociopath. Like he was taking some kind of pleasure in seeing me like this. He didn't even bother to help me off the meds. It was a pure hell situation.

As one who had similar type symptoms on a 4 med psych cocktail, I would definitely be concerned. In fact, I have mild dyslexia and thought it was worsening before I realized that the meds were at play.

I also experienced the same type of problems in writing. For example, even though my brain knew exactly the word I wanted to type, something different would come out.

Sadly, many psychiatrists (not all) blow off patient complaints as being symptoms of their MI label. The standard response is to increase the dose even though it may be causing toxic symptoms.

Why were you prescribed the Seroquel. Are you still taking it?

I am sorry you are dealing with this.

I'm not sure what my diagnosis is. I recently checked into a hospital, and they wrote down a few things. Possibly, schizoaffective disorder, ptsd, and some other things. I have a schizo-like illness, with a mood disorder component. I'm not taking the Seroquel anymore though, now I'm on Zyprexa.

It might be still happening b/c you're on the same type of drug.

Well I was off Seroquel XR for a few months and took nothing else and still had those symptoms during that time frame. I just now got on Zyprexa after a hospital visit. Sorry if that sounds confusing. There was a brief time frame of a couple of months when I wasn't on any med that I still had the symptoms. Lately the severity is getting less and less. I haven't noticed anything disturbing about Zyprexa, at least yet.
