This seems SO basic - but how is a person to remember to take meds daily? It may have soemthing to do with my schedule as I do not have any sort of routine with constantly changing work shifts. I seem to do great for a few days maybe a week at the most - then i forget for a few days (or a month). Looking at my refills - over 6 months im probably about 3 - 3.5 months behind. Any ideas? other than post - its because Im rarely in the same place. I have also tried leaving meds in several places so when i do remember I have them right there - but then i can't remember if i already took them that day or was that yesterday???

Do you carry a cell phone? You could try something along the lines of setting an alarm on it to go off each day, and when it goes off, you take your meds (assuming you carry them with you). Or first thing when you wake up?

yeah ive tried those but my cell doesnt ring at home and i work some overnights some days so i never wake up at the same time, some days im in the middle of work in the am some times im sound alseep. I could set an alarm to wake myself or ring my cell or home phone depending on where i will be - but then to remember to set the alarm and set the right one... maybe there is a pager type thing that will go off every day at the same time that I can carry everywhere? I knwo there is a simple solution that i have been overlooking.

What about those little boxes they sell that have a separate compartment for each day of the week? It's bulky, but you could carry it with you and only need to fill it up once a week.

Or, put each pill in a little packet or ziploc bag, and write the date or day of the week on the outside?

I take my medicine first thing in the morning.... I have them setting on my counter top in the kitchen where I am sure to see them and in nine years I have never missed a schedule medicine.... I take some of the meds 2x a day (morning & night).

Second thought on the subject....
How about a sports watch - most of them have alarms on them, just set it for the time(s) you need to take your medicine.

Good Luck....

I have a pill box that is actually 7 separate boxes stacked in a little plastic case. Each box is tiny, about 2 x 3 inches, and has 4 compartments. After I take my first dose of the day I just slip the box in my pocket or purse, so it is always with me whether I am at home or out. I seldom forget a dose anymore. Unfortunately, I do not know the manufacturer or where you can buy one. I found it a a dollar store a couple of years ago. I will do a little searching and if I find something like it, I will post the source.

You probably will have to try several ways to get this to work for you...and might end up with more than one plan.

Yes, they have those pill boxes widely available, with the day's segment removable to put in a pocket and carry. I like the alarm watch, coupled with the cell phone alarm.

My phone alarm continues to beep every 10 minutes till I recognize it!

You might have to go as far as keeping a note in your pocket where you write when you took your dose... or even write it on your palm for the day! I know, it takes thinking about it to do that, and if you can think about it, then you can remember to take it...

There is, at long last, a call service. Usually ppl use to as a wake up service, but they won't know that it's to remind you to take your meds, you'll just know when they call to do that!

What do you think? Find something you might try?

grimsbycat,

You could try, making yourself a little chart. Put it on the fridge and then tick it off every time you take your pill.

I know someone who uses this with success. It has a timer that can be set and a little compartment to carry some pills. Hope that helps. How am I supposed to remember?
