My p-doc told me that I had a borderline personality and she gave me 50mg Celexa (a highish dose of an SSRI).

Then she went on maternity leave and this other p-doc gave me 0.75mg Risperdal (a low dose atypical antipsychotic)

I think that pretty much everything is used to treat borderline personality disorder. I think it is about treating the symptoms. Different people with a borderline personality have different symptoms.

Hi TgrsPurr,

I'm not too familiar with the meds that will help, but while I was researching Lamictal, I came across this thread you may find helpful.

Celexa, Seroquel, and Risperdal for me. I have stopped taking Risperdal now, but if things get bad, I can take it up again.

Sleepiness is a big side effect. Other effects differ from each person. It's a good idea to check out that website. I'm sure there are other sites that had decent info too. Good luck.

I'm taking 50mg Celexa and 0.75mg Risperdal and I'm finding sleepiness to be a big side effect.

I have some muscle twitches too, not sure whether or not that is from Risperdal or Celexa. I got twitches on Celexa.

There's a lot of links to useful information about borderline personality disorder at Dr. Ivan's Depression Central

I found a web site linked there that has some info on all the different sorts of drugs used to treat BPD.

HMMMM......I think my Doc is trying to treat the main symptom of my BPD which is my overwhelming self hatred (not really deserved...but hey it is my personal demon).

I take clozaril, effexor xr, remeron and provigil. This combo keeps me from acting on my suicidal thoughts.......but unfortunately does not keep me from having them Borderline Personality Disorder.

Medications for BPD help the person stay grounded in the real world and help those people dealing with BPD to keep from falling into the DEEP pit of depression! We fall......but hey, hopefully not as far......something that at least I am very prone to do....

I have BPD and take Cymbalta 20mg and Risperdal 3mg. I was trying to go off my meds then life got screwy on me again and I needed to add an antidepressant back to the mix. I am hoping that eventually I'll be able to be off all my meds as I hate taking them.

I live with BPD.
I am on 60mg Cymbalta and 25mg of Seroquel.
This with therapy seems to be working for the moment.
