I'm starting Lexapro now, along with my Lamictal.
The Lamictal is for BP II (not surprisingly), and the Lexapro is for anxiety and OCD. My doctor is having me take 10mg of Lexapro for a week, then 20mg. I'm hoping that I don't react badly to it...my experience with SSRIs has not been the best, although I've never taken them in conjunction with a mood stabilizer before, so things might be different this time around...I'm certainly hoping that they are. My doctor told me to take it in the morning as it can be activating, so I'm going to try that and see how it goes. I hope that it is though since Lamictal is sedating for me, and I don't need any more sedation. It also better be worth it...I have insurance, and the prescription still cost me $45 for just a month! It's absurd! Last edited by SingDanceRunLife; May 14, 2011 at 03:47 PM. |

Well I took my first 10mg this morning. It didn't seem to be particularly activating or sedating...but it has caused a lot of nausea...at least as bad as Zoloft (which was pretty bad for me). All I've been able to eat all day is some saltine crackers and a bowl of chicken noodle soup (which I'm now sort of regretting).
Hopefully this passes soon like it did with the Zoloft...and hopefully it doesn't end up being like Celexa which killed my appetite completely and caused me to lose almost 5 pounds in two weeks (a lot for someone my size -- 5'4" with a normal weight ranging from 117-120lbs). |

I found lexapro to lift the depression better than anything else I've tried, and I've tried just about all of them but MAOs. At higher doses (60mg) it did become sedating over time.
I'm not impressed with lamictal. It has made me more depressed by erasing all positive feelings. I understand that it's supposed to prevent mania, but I've never had mania or experienced hypomania. The lamictal has suppressed my ability to enjoy anything at all. This has led to deeper depression. I noticed the blunting of positive feelings right away. (I've been taking lamictal for a year now.) I had hoped that it would blunt the negative feelings, too, but it has not. (I'm going to try again to persuade my doctor to take me off of it.) Just my experience. ![]() |

I was on Lexapro (only) right after my son passed away (20mg) and it was wonderfully for me...And it really helped me with that stressful time in my life...took it about 8 months i think (back in 2004)
