Hey,
I'm on Depakote for borderline pd and it worked for like a month, now, it doesnt help me at all...so i took myself off of it. which is a bad thing i know, but i did anyways. Is that uncommon for a drug to do that?? and do any combonations work for people with bpd? like--drug wise. ? just outta curiosity so i can suggest some drug meds to my doctor on thursday...thanks everyone!!

be sure and talk to your doc...and don't just quit a med cold turkey. the consequences can be devastating for you...some of these little critters can cause really drastic withdrawal.

There is a post I started a few threads down with some great info that others have provided and commented with on this same subject.

Depakote worked on my BPD symptoms for a short period of time as well- you might just need a higher dose. Be careful, again, about taking yourself off drugs abruptly because seizures are a major risk.

Chat with your M.D./Psychiatrist about trying a higher dose or trying a combination or new type of drug if you feel it isn't effective.

Hope you find something that works for you

Maybe you needed a change in your dosage, or type, I know Depakote also comes in extended acting form,Depakote ER, I guess like "time release"? But anyway, as you already know, don't just stop a med. until you contact the prescribing physician. Get in contact with he or she and tell them exactly what is going on, to avoid further problems. Maybe you'll just need a change in med. one that may work better and longer for you, some meds can have a "poop out period" after several years, especially those in the SSRI group.
Larry Hoover, if he drops in, can give you more info. he is best known for his expertise in this area.

Please take care,
DE
