I've stopped and started prozac a lot (i'm just not that compliant with that drug at all - even though I should be).

It has always worked for me even after a protracted absence. The start-up however on Prozac can be harsh, but after about a month it always levels out for me.

I say give it a few more days. What dose are you on?

Hey you, thanks for responding I'm not having any side effects elliemay...I'm just not having any good effects /shrug
I've been taking it for 5 or 6 weeks now. The prescribed dosage is 20mg per day. A week ago I bumped it up to 20mg twice per day. I called and left a message for my doc asking if it was okay to do this but he didn't respond. He's a good doc but this just isn't something he knows a lot about. It was my suggestion to switch to prozac...to alleviate the effexor withdrawal and to possibly become functional again w/ an affordable med that had worked once before. The effexor seemed to have lost much of it's effectiveness and I hadn't been able to afford to take it at the suggested dosage for a long time.
As for the prozac dosage, 40mg was what I was taking before the other doc replaced the prozac w/ effexor xr. I think I mentioned this before but there was no particular reason for the switch. I was doing okay...had a normal job and then got so busy playing music that I had to choose between the day job and music. I chose music. So I was functioning okay at the time the meds were switched. I was an MHMRA client and doctors and case workers came and went on a regular basis. Policy changed frequently also.
I'm sorry but my thoughts aren't ordered right now and I don't have the focus to go back and edit for coherency
My history is long and complicated so it might be best to stick to the here and now and hope I answered your question well enough

Okay...9 weeks now...10 maybe. I think it's time to admit it isn't going to work the way it did the first time.
